At the helm of this small, highly-skilled team is Russell Salisbury, who started his apprenticeship at 15 years old at Gary Doornbos Holdings, Runaway Bay, one of the largest timber boat building yards on the Gold Coast.
Russell worked there for 21 years, and when Gary retired in 2008, Russell took on the business and relocated it to The Boat Works. The business changed in name alone, staying true to the fundamentals of reliability, ethics and quality servicing of timber boats.
On the team is Aaron Chapman, also a well-known boat wright with 25 years as a specialist timber boat background; Tony LeCram who has been working on boats for over 40 years; Rhett Kelly, who is a fourth-year apprentice and shows a flair for work on both timber and fibreglass vessels; Kyle Clark, who joins the team as a school-based first-year apprentice; and Jacqui, the Administration Manager who keeps the business running smoothly behind the scenes.
Russell Marine also relies on the support of some very talented subcontractors who assist with electrical, mechanical and upholstery needs.

Russell Marine has been at The Boat Works since the start, occupying three different shed spaces in that time and expanding with each move, currently capable of taking on vessels up to 100 tonnes.
Russell Marine is proudly a boutique business that specialises in the upkeep of timber boats utilising traditional methods of single-pack application. In addition to concentrating on their specialty of timber vessels, Russell Marine has also taken on board the maintenance and professional management of several luxury fibreglass motor yachts, including a series of Palm Beach Motor Yachts.
Russell’s extensive knowledge and attention to detail were key to his appointment to service a Palm Beach MY 50 and 55, and when the time came to build the next model, a PBMY 65 named Rena G, Russell was an integral part of the team for the design and build.
The team at Russell Marine was involved in the design and planning of this custom-crafted beauty, working on every facet through to construction, delivery and final dressing for display at the 2017 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and delivery to customer.
