MEGA Sheds, largest on the GC.

Opening on Valentine’s Day, Monday 14 February, The Boat Works Mega Sheds have already accepted bookings from some of the region’s premium superyachts.

The 50-metre sheds will officially open in February and the first to book was the robust 37.4-metre Moonen motor yacht ‘Beluga’, which boasts an 8.1-metre beam.

The award-winning charter yacht is based at Port Douglas and is a popular choice for Great Barrier Reef charters, as well as having an impressive track record in exploration, philanthropy and research projects including The Great Reef Census.

At 20-metres high, the four-deck explorer will be extremely comfortable in the new Mega Shed, with ample room and enough air draft for refit and maintenance works.

The sheds have a 16-metre width to accommodate the scaffold and scissor or boom lifts necessary for various refit works along with plenty of room aside for cooling towers, storage containers, even enough room to store the tender or jetskis.

The Mega Sheds; the largest for the Gold Coast are situated in the dedicated Superyacht facility with easy access to the Marine Trade Supplies and Chandlery and all marine services within the Gold Coast Marine Precinct.

Contractors will enjoy the north facing aspect preventing the trending south-east winds along with enjoying the north aspect of longer daylight hours.

All sheds provide state-of-the-art LED lighting, ample power for vessels and trades, drainage channelled into a treatment process and commercial curtains for privacy and reduction of noise and dust.

“To meet demand, we accelerated our plans,” explained The Boat Works owner, Tony Longhurst.

“Our new Mega Sheds are five-metres higher than our existing Super Sheds and they are the largest on the Gold Coast, ready and waiting for the largest privately owned and commercial superyachts.”

As Tony observed, in 2022 the Gold Coast is looking forward to welcoming a flurry of new 20m+ vessels. Onsite partner, Alexander Marine Australia will receive the new Ocean Alexander 27E in mid-April. Horizon Motor Yachts, based at Sanctuary Cove, have recently taken delivery of four new vessels in the Fast Displacement (FD) Series, which will all be commissioned at The Boat Works over the next few weeks.

The Gold Coast is fast becoming the region’s superyacht hub. In February, Southport Yacht Club will officially open its unique 163-metre Mega Berth – the largest of its kind in Australia.

Brett James, General Manager at Southport Yacht Club said The Boat Works’ Mega Sheds opening was “perfectly timed, coinciding with the Mega Berth at Southport Yacht Club”.

“Both these Mega Yacht infrastructures are the first of their kind in Australia. Vessels from not only Australia but the world are coming to see what Australia has to offer.”

We will see various expedition and motoryachts from various locations that look to dock at Southport Yacht Club’s new berth before heading to The Boat Works for haul out and service.

There, Captain and crew will enjoy all the amenities of the VIP Lounge onsite, a retreat from the yard with meeting room, kitchen, bar and lounge with view over the marina. The Boat Works was designed with recreational green zones for shade and relaxation, and the new Kokomo Kitchen & Bar on the palm-fringed sand beach of the superyacht basin provides entertainment with sundowners and a friendly ambience.

“It’s a new super-era we’re entering on the Gold Coast and we’re proud to be leading it,” stated The Boat Works’ General Manager, Shane Subichin. “Our Mega Sheds are world-class, as are our tenants, staff and contractors.”
