Meet Fredl our Marine Professional here onsite from Yachtsmen International. Fredl will trade in his working day on-board many a Boat to participate with his beloved Merc in this years Mystery Box Rally raising much needed funds towards Cancer research.
The Mother Truckers they call themselves.
Local Marine Professional, Fredl van der Merwe is dedicated & 100% committed to the rally’s cause after being personalised impacted within his family circle to the dreaded disease of cancer and loosing his father in law 2 years ago to brain cancer. He is teamed up together with co-driver Joshua Dabadie to take on the challenge in the 1984 Mercedes Benz 190E Sedan.
Over the last nine odd years, Mystery Box & Shitbox Rally has raised up near $20 million for Cancer Council. The annual event is dedicated to raise much needed funds towards cancer research and they kick off again for this weekend from Byron Bay. ‘Its such a terrific cause and this year so far it looks like funds raised could be close to $1million, which is incredible’ says Fredl.
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5 day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing from Byron Bay, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
We wish Fredl & Josh all the very best of support for this journey ahead and congratulate the Mystery Box and Shitbox Rally’s for encouraging and continuing to support the cause.
