DOWNLOAD your checklist below for hassle-free boating this Summer

Large or small, basic or customised, every vessel needs to be maintained and proper pre-season service is the key to fun and safe boating.

As we move into spring, planning ahead for the holidays, now is the time to have your boat systems checked and undertake preventative maintenance to avoid problems that could keep you off the water or place your family’s safety at risk.

With more than 25 years in the industry, Rod Twitchin Marine has compiled a general maintenance checklist to make your vessel preparation more manageable, to get peak boating season off to a great start.

“You’ve waited all winter and work hard all week to get out on the water, probably with your family and friends,” explains Rod. “It’s crucial to attend to your boat after winter layover to avoid disappointment or any issues that impact on your safety. The RTM Maintenance Checklist is a very comprehensive guide to aspects of your boat that need attention at this time of year.

“Boats are exposed to the elements,” he continues. “Maintenance is vital for your safety and looking after your investment. There would be nothing worse that quibbling over saving a couple of hundred dollars on service or a replacement part, when you’re out there and find yourself in trouble.

“Prevention is always better than a cure, and certainly less costly.”

Rod is an AMSA accredited Marine SurveyoIMG_5852r, Master 5 and Engineer. As a qualified mechanic, he has a diverse background as a Ships Master and Engineer, and onshore in Marine Surveying, maintenance and safety management.

He is the sole Marine Surveyor onsite and can provide a broad range of services to recreational and commercial vessels, from pre-purchase condition reports, insurance assessing and reports, valuations, preparing vessel operation guides, safety systems, skipper training, project management and vessel management, as well as valet service for delivery and routine maintenance.

In the instance of buying a pre-owned boat, RTM can also liaise with the broker or current owner to arrange inspection dates/times and organise the marina berth or travel lift booking offering clients a hassle-free service throughout the survey period.

“Several of our local, interstate and international clients have been so impressed with their pre-purchase reports that they have now contracted me to take the ‘helm’ of their vessels as they undergo various works and require tailored Vessel Operations Manuals.”

RTM has recently launched two new divisions, branching into boat preparation, provisioning and remodelling with RM Interiors, and RTM Signs, illuminated and non-illuminated signage to enhance your boat’s appearance.

“If you’re coming down to your boat, you can contact Renee and we will provision the boat and prepare it, turn on the ice makers, hot water, arrange the flowers and stock the fridge, dress the boat for the weekend.

“We offer a turn-key service to put boaties’ minds at ease. Leave it to the experts, hop in and go.”
